How far 2,000 words a week goes

People speak at roughly 130 words a minute, so 2,000 words is about 15 minutes of dictation a week, or three minutes a working day. That covers a handful of chat replies. It does not cover drafting documents, long emails or code reviews by voice, which is where dictation saves the most time.

What a year of Pro costs

Billed annually, Pro is $144 a year per person. Month to month it is $180 a year. Students and educators with an education email get 50% off Pro, and nonprofits get a discounted rate. You can cancel any time under Plan & Billing in the desktop app.

Why the free plan is metered

Wispr Flow transcribes on its servers and runs an AI pass that removes filler words and adjusts tone to the app you are in. Every word dictated costs it compute, so free use has a ceiling and the paid plans pay for the rest.

A free option that runs on your Mac

If you mainly want words to appear where you type, without the rewriting, TypeAloud transcribes on your Mac with no word limit and no account. It is free and open source.
